Dimantions: 52x45x13cm

Unique piece

Materials: metal scrap, wire, decorative wooden frame

A lovely lady donated this picture frame to me. It was in poor condition,

but it carried a lot of history that she shared with me.
At first, I wasn’t sure how to use it,

but I knew I wanted the frame to really stand out in the piece.

Now, after restoration, it’s been given new life.

This sculpture is inspired by a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

It depicts a scene set some time after the events of the poem,

when the shipwreck has become part of the ocean floor.

Two octopuses are fighting over an anchor.

This ornate frame was a gift to my wife from her grandfather.

For a long time it sat unused, as she wasn’t sure what to do with it.

One day, she asked if I could create something for it, and this quirky “kissy face” was born.
